VARG [SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive]
A downloadable game
VARG is an action platformer for Sega's legendary 16-Bit console. In October 2025, I discovered the "Scorpion Engine" and now want to realise my childhood dream of developing my own video game.
The new "Summer Demo" includes 8 stages and 2 music tracks which I produced using Deflemask.
Controls:
A - Attack
B - Jump
On certain platforms, you have to press down on the pad to drop down.

Really enjoyed the new demo, some great mechanics and strategy involved and the graphics are even better than the last demo, great work!
Are you still working on this?
Yes, I'm currently working quite intensively on the project. The graphics, enemies, and features for the new level are mostly finished.
My goal for the next demo is to showcase this new level, as well as rework the level already released in the Xmas demo.
Looks good. Glad you didn't stop the project and abandoned it. Good things take time (as usual). Once the time comes closer, we might be also able to offer you something similar to what Chris does ;-) (but on demand production, which usually guarantees lower costs for everyone)
Hi there, this is Chris from retrospiel.com - We are looking for interesting games to release on cartridge and would be interested in producing a physical edition of VARG. Contact me via info@retrospiel.com
Excellent work, I hope you finish it soon! I'm also finishing up my game for Sega Genesis, it's called Rick and Alice: Retro Games Hunters.
¡Simplemente a toda velocidad! 😎

Hello and thank you for your feedback! Yes, delaying the attack takes some practice. I did that on purpose. The game is not meant to be a hack 'n' slay.
The number of enemies is relatively small, and they only need one hit. The focus of this game is more on timing and precision, similar to the many jumping sequences.
The game is very speedrun-oriented. That's why there is no Lifebar, but the number of lives is unlimited. I would also like to keep this simple game principle. No HUD, no displays, no dialogues. Just full speed ahead! 😎
Great game, love the precision platforming and the level design!
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it.
